Chapter 3: A head is worth a million

Dark Small Medium Large Original Scroll to Bottom

The automatic rifle slipped from his hand, landing on the ground with a "thud." Under the flickering light, the puppy's hooked claw pierced through Kanda's body, and in a flash of blood, the intact corpse was severed in two.

Puff puff puff

Tang Fang struggled to stand up, casually grabbing a severed limb of an insect corpse, and stumbled his way towards Thomas

The cries of the puppy gradually diminished, and a foul stench began to spread. Tang Fang exerted himself to push away the insect corpses pressing down on him, taking a deep breath. Fortunately, these insects were under his control; otherwise, he would have certainly died this time.

Thomas was stunned, his mind blank. Instinctively, he reached for the automatic rifle behind him, but suddenly a buzzing sound filled his ears. He mechanically turned his head slightly, and another alien appeared in his line of sight

The sharp bullet tore through the air, whistling away, and it was evident that fear and resentment were etched across Tang Fang's face

Run. A thought flashed through his mind: run as far as you can.

Thomas's somewhat hysterical laughter pulled his thoughts back to reality. Just as he was about to ask a few more useful questions, a faint murmur of voices came from ahead: "Hurry up, the sound of the explosion came from that direction, there may be someone encountering a swarm."

Who is it that wants my life? Is the 'Wei Touer' you speak of Wei Haitao?

When he shifted his gaze forward, the scene of light refracting onto his pupil left him utterly astonished

Ah

"Go to hell." Accompanied by Kanda's frenzied roar, the gun's muzzle spat out three tongues of flame in succession

Kangda's three bullets all hit the scales on the monster's back, but it was unknown how tough those scales were. Even the bullets couldn't penetrate them completely, only leaving deep indentations. Dark green body fluid slowly oozed out along the edges of the bullet shells.

Tang Fang's expression darkened. Wei Haitao is the deputy commander of this mission. If it is indeed he who instructed Thomas and Kanda to act, then his own situation would be quite dire

Puff!

1 million? Those famous interstellar pirates are probably only worth that much. When did I ever stand on equal footing with such ruthless individuals

Hahaha, I have said that you can hide for a lifetime, but you cannot escape for a lifetime. Even if you survive today, what about tomorrow? The day after tomorrow? On what basis do you think you can compete with Wei Haitao?

Blood erupted like a fountain, illuminated by the light of the gun muzzle, falling like raindrops onto the fiercely menacing face of the puppy, the dark green fluid mixing with the crimson blood, creating an exceptionally terrifying scene

The single shots transformed into a continuous barrage, with tongues of fire erupting one after another, and the incessant flashes illuminated the entire pit.

Should we join the battle group? Is there any need to ask? Of course!

A black-and-white scene flashed through my mind, where Thomas was killed, and Kanda's little dog was knocked to the ground, blood streaming from its body, its claws, stained with Kanda's blood, pierced through his shoulders.

What on earth is going on? Tang Fang cannot understand why his own head is worth so much on the black market

The upper body fell onto the rocks, and Kanda opened his eyes wide in anger, his blood-soaked head appearing directly in front of the gun's spotlight.

Kang Da fired the trigger continuously, and as the flames flickered, bullet after bullet whistled out.

The mournful cries of the puppy echoed, and the pain ignited its ferocity. With its sturdy hind legs gathering strength, it swiftly covered a distance of ten feet.

Hiss

Kang Da wanted to escape, but his legs would not obey him at all, and the cold sweat on his forehead was like a tide; his right index finger was firmly pressed against the trigger

In Thomas's eyes, there flickered a light of hatred; this little bastard deserved to die. If it weren't for his quick reaction just now, he would probably be dead by now. Damn it! Damn it! Even if this guy were to die on the spot, he would still want to go up and stab him a couple of times to vent his anger

What kind of monster is this! Thomas was frightened. After six years of service, he had set foot in dozens of star systems and had encountered many native species, but he had never seen an alien like the one before him, exuding violence and bloodlust from every angle

Once again, a claw pierced through, and Kanda's pale face contorted into a grimace, his mouth twitching a few times before he let out a "puff" and spat out a large mouthful of fresh blood. His head tilted, and he breathed his last.

Puppy (Jump Bug); a basic ground combat unit of the insect race, born as a pair from a single egg, approximately half the height of a human, with a body length of about 1.5 meters, capable of tearing apart enemies with its powerful claws and jaws, and even penetrating iron armor

"My head is very valuable? How much is it worth?" Tang Fang was taken aback, unable to comprehend how his head could be equated with imperial currency despite searching through all of Tang Yan's memories. The original owner of this body was merely an ordinary soldier who had served for six years, coming from a humble background and having never accomplished anything remarkable. If one were to speak of the most daring thing he had done in his life, it would be stealing a can of enriched uranium and selling it on the black market, using the money earned to support his brother and sister living far away on Recto Star.

When it comes to death, who among the living is not afraid? The cold smiles on Kanda and Thomas's faces grew even more pronounced

... ...

He asked, why does he want to kill me

"Because your head is very valuable," Thomas spat out a mouthful of blood and said coldly

Puff, puff, puff ... ...

Ah... no! No! Meanwhile, two screams echoed from a distance

Puff puff puff puff ... ...

Even if he is a veteran who has experienced countless battles, when faced with the current situation, he still feels his hands and feet turn cold, and a chill spreads throughout his body

Tang Fang stood still, clearly unable to match the speed of the bullet. In the next moment, he should be able to hear his own scream as he was shot. Unbeknownst to him, a cruel and sinister smile appeared at the corner of Kanda's mouth.

With a single thought, he propped himself up and took off running. Before parting, he did not forget to cast a fierce glare at Tang Fang, who was hidden in the shadows and unable to move. He reached for a fragmentary hand grenade from his belt, pressed the detonation button, and tossed it behind him: "Tang Yan, go to hell with these monsters."

The scales of the puppy cannot be penetrated even by bullets, yet a fragmentation grenade can kill it, which illustrates the terrifying power involved

Yet none of this could save his life, as a sharp claw pierced through the combat suit, penetrating his chest, accompanied by the brutal howl of the puppy.

Even if this matter is discovered by the higher authorities, the worst that could happen is that he would be punished with an additional year of military service; it is absolutely impossible for them to take his life. To take it a step further, even if the authorities wanted to set an example, there is no need to resort to such means to deal with him. If the military truly wanted to eliminate him, it would be simpler than crushing an ant.

Just as the two had determined that the situation was settled and that Tang Fang's fate was sealed, suddenly, a fleeting shadow passed by.

Fierce and malevolent, bloodthirsty and savage

Bang

"So what? Tang Yan, you may escape for a moment, but you cannot escape for a lifetime." Thomas sneered coldly, his face pale and devoid of any color.

Tang Fang is now filled with bitterness; the fragmentary grenade he originally intended to use to perish alongside Kanda and Thomas has unexpectedly struck him on the head. The sense of smugness he felt moments ago due to the little dog displaying its ferocity has vanished in an instant

A pungent smell wafted in, and Thomas frowned. Tang Fang remained sprawled there, neither moving nor screaming.

Dada dada dada

Time did not come to a standstill due to his predicament, as the "bang" of the fragmentation grenade exploded, sending countless tiny fragments flying out.

A creature standing at least half the height of a person blocked Tang Fang's path, its bird-like legs firmly gripping the ground. Its foul-smelling mouth dripped with streams of murky liquid that emitted a putrid odor, and its six jagged claws, sharp as iron chisels, reflected a chilling light under the illumination.

1 million

A dark shadow swept by, and the small dog that was originally chasing Thomas suddenly changed direction, instantly pinning him down.
